Mid-Century Modern Modern Armchair Pair in Hardwood & Cane, Brazil, 1960s

About the Item

Available today, these Brazilian Modern Tall Armchairs in Hardwood & Handwoven Cane, are exquisite. The armchairs are made of solid Brazilian Rosewood, as known as Jacaranda and handwoven cane in the seat and back. One of the chairs has new cane and the other is original. The wood has been refinished displaying beautiful yellow veins and beside the marks of age, both chairs are in excellent condition. This set would look wonderful in any mid-century modern, modern, or contemporary environment. The chairs, while vintage and modern in nature, could also be used as more transitional pieces with a more traditional environment. We have another pair of chairs in case there’s interest in a set of four. Brazilian rosewood, also called Jacaranda, is perhaps one of the most beautiful woods in the world. It is regarded as one of the finest tone woods; hard, stiff, and highly resonant with a glass-like ring that sustains; it has a floral scent, like roses, thus the name. However, extensive overlogging over the past three centuries has virtually eliminated this tree from the Brazilian forests, so that today it is not supposed to be logged. The only material that can be sold legally is old stock. By owning a vintage piece made of old Jacaranda, you’re not only getting a beautiful collectible but also helping this species to recuperate. Available today, this pair of midcentury modern chairs made in Brazilian Rosewood, known as Jacaranda & Cane designed by Alexandre Rapoport in the 1960’s are gorgeous! The delicate set features a Rosewood structure with caning in the seat. The Brazilian Rosewood is nothing less than spectacular and displays vibrant wood veins that almost feel the chairs are alive! The pair is extremely light weight, as a result of the Jacaranda's aging process.
