Pair 19th Century Italian Walnut Renaissance Revival Dagobert Armchairs are derived from a design that dates back millennia to ancient Egypt! The criss-cross placement of the framing creates a cradling effect, yet the legs curve out for extra stability. Here we see fine craftsmanship from Italian artisans, with meticulous attention paid to construction, and even more effort expended in adornment, with a variety of Renaissance themes expressed in full relief and bas relief across the canvas of each chair's framework. The seat back features three shield motifs above which appears a lion's face flanked by acanthus plumes, with the scrolled cornerposts of the uprights also carved with acanthus motif.
