About the Item

FRENCH ART DECO LACQUERED WHITE AND PARCEL GILT ARM CHAIRS A pair circa 1940s Item # 312XKP02P Precisely crafted and carved, these fabulous chairs from the Art Deco period are clearly influenced by the Neoclassical and Louis XVI eras with their own refreshing development on the taste. Each chair exhibits fine detailing including the multidimensional applied rosettes on the arms and knees. The frames are beautifully molded with crisp reeding, the arms curving outward and raised over stop-fluted supports, the overall form of each remains restrained and appropriate for any formal room without dominating the setting. Resting over turned and tapering legs with bands of gilded acanthus around the knee and beaded turnings around the ankles, they are angular and incredibly attractive. The brilliant glossy surface of the lacquered white enamel is particularly attractive in the curving arms and the crest where light catches the surface nicely. Beyond simply being beautiful, the chairs are clearly designed with comfort and practical use in mind. The frames are very heavy and well-built to allow for regular use. Naturally they work well as a pair for the living spaces, but also are incredibly comfortable as desk chairs. Measurements: 23 1/4” W X approx. 25” D X 36 1/8” H, 17 1/4” H to seat Condition Report: Light surface wear including paint loss, chips, minor joint gaps (though the chairs are incredibly sturdy and strong).
