Pair of Grete Jalk Model 118 armchairs in Teak for France & Daverkosen, 1950s

About the Item

Charming pair of Grete Jalk Model 118 armchairs in teak and fabric for France & Daverkosen from 1955. These two comfortable chairs are the first of the model 118 series designed by Grete Jalk and manufactured in 1955. The frames of these completely original examples are beautiful to look at. Let's start at the back. We see an interesting combination of the patinated teak legs, backrest, and webbing. If you look at the hind legs from the side, you will see that they lean slightly forward. A nice design solution by Grete Jalk at the time to guarantee the sturdiness of the chair and turn it into an aesthetically pleasing construction. The armrests, both with attractive wood drawings, are wide at the base and taper towards the front legs. From the rear part, we see that the bottom line slopes upwards and disappears nicely in a connection with the front legs. The seats, therefore, lean back slightly and offer great seating comfort. Apart from a single superficial scratch on the frames, we have two chairs here that have withstood the test of time very well. We would, however, advise you to reupholster the seatings. You can find these chairs in the Design Museum Denmark under reference number RP03605.

  • Pair of Eugenio Gerli Model 126 Lounge Chairs Società Compensati Curvi, Italy
By Società Compensati Curvati, Eugenio Gerli
    Located in Hellouw, NL
These beautiful bentwood chairs were designed in 1958 by the Italian architect Eugenio Gerli for Società Compensatie Curvi. This company, which was located in Monza at the time, specialized in manufacturing highly stylized chairs made of bentwood with a modular choice offered to the customer. For example, there was a catalog showing that at that time you could choose from different types of bases and bodies. These specific lounge chairs are made up of seven layers of glued and bent teak veneer. A special example of craftsmanship and artistry in which technique and aesthetics effortlessly come together. The body is attached to a beautiful slender black-painted metal base by means of four bolts. The considerable contrast between the base and the seating area seems to make the chair float. The opening at the back of the seat allows for an angelic light...
