Pair of Lajos Kozma Attributed Armchairs in Oak and Dedar Jacquard, Late 1940s

About the Item

This striking pair of armchairs was produced in the late 1940s. The rare design is attributed to the Hungarian designer Lajos Kozma. Kozma was working in the specific Central European decorative tradition, which combined both art nouveau and art deco inspired circular and organic lines. This pair offers a perfect example of that particular sensibility. The round backrest is upholstered on both sides. The armrests follow a gracious line, ending in a circular shaped front. The lower part of the frame and the legs offer a dynamic combination of rounded and straight lines. The entire frame is made of solid oak wood which has been finished in a black stain. The chairs have been reconditioned and newly upholstered in a striking Dedar fabric. Flimflam is a a slubbed jacquard inspired by Bargello fabrics of the 17th century Florentine tradition. Four differently coloured yarns are combined to reinvent a classical motif. The backrests on both the front and back have been finished with brass nails.
