Stamped inventory number '3709' with typed collection label "Collection Andre Meyer/Paris 1970" and "B19B", with indistinct blue chalk inscription.

Covered in mid-eighteenth century Beauvais tapestry woven with peonies on a cream silk ground, these Louis XV armchairs have a channeled frame carved with floral sprays, scrolled, channeled cabriole arms above a waved seat-rail centered by flower-headed channeled cabriole legs with scrolled foliate feet.
Jean Avisse (1723-after 1796) produced chairs, sofas, stools, chaises and similar furniture during the eighteenth century. His chairs are elaborately decorated and finely detailed with creative variations and natural images such as shells, flowers, and leaves. He stamped his work with the signature IAVISSE. Reproductions in his style are often called Avisse.
His chairs and seating furniture can be seen at the Musée des Art décoratifs, Paris, the Getty Museum in Malibu, and the Nissim-de-Camondo, Paris.
