About the Item

We are is delighted to offer this very fine pair of fully restored early Victorian circa 1840 hand dyed whiskey brown leather Thomas Chippendale wingback armchairs These chairs are pretty much the finest I have ever seen, they are oversized in all areas, the dimensions are around 15% larger than normal. The claw & ball legs are chunky and the carving follows all the way round to the back of the chairs The cushions have what’s called “Thomas Chippendale floating buttons” Chippendale was the finest cabinet maker in the world during the 18th century, his settees and armchairs sell in the millions. The chairs also have the inside of the arms buttoned in this fashion In terms of the restoration the leather had faded back to the plain hide, it was washed back, one chair had both arm leathers replaced, both seat cushions are new and goose feather filled, the leather was then hand dyed six times and antiqued this glorious whisky brown colour. The wood work was stripped back and traditionally French polished.
