Set of 2 Medea Armchairs by Vittorio Nobili for Fratelli Tagliabue, Italy, 1955

About the Item

Set of two fully restored 'Medea' chairs by Vittorio Nobili for Fratelli Tagliabue. These lovely chairs used to be upholstered but we removed the vinyl and sandpapered them and then lacquered them three (!) times. We also made the metal of the legs nice again resulting in a very nice set. Lots of hours of work were spent bút the most satifying work there is because of the very nice result. Hope you like them too. What else needs to be said about these chairs; they speak for themselves. We think it's one of the most iconic designs in the 20th century. We also have 4 available without armrest in case you need 6.

  • Rosewood Set of 2 Niels Otto Møller Armchairs No 62, Denmark, 1960's
By Niels Otto Møller, J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik
    Located in Amsterdam, NL
An elegant anthropomorphic set of 2 armchairs in rosewood by the renowned Danish designer Niels Otto Møller. Back in the days these chairs wíth armrests were always part of a set of more of these chairs, most of them without armrest. Depending on how many children you had or how many guests you would like to seat, you could decide how many you wanted. Most of the time it was a set of six. It was quite common that only the father and let's assume also the mother (we are talking Scandinavia who are always well ahead of their time), had one wíth armrest and the rest of the set would be without the armest. For this reason the ones with armrest are always a bit higher in value. You could probaly find these charis at the head and foot of the table with the father and mother overseeing the evening dinner. These armchairs are made of solid of high quality Brazilian rosewood so they are very sturdy and heavy. Brazilian rosewood has good carving properties and you can see that back in the shape of the frame with nicely made details. The result of all this is an open and inviting chair with a formal and classic appearance. Lots of details such as the little hornets and the nice curves in the armrest both in the length as in the corner. The two chairs both need reupholstery which is the perfect way to let them melt together as a set, because the rosewood is exactly similar in colour. We would advice some high quality leather and no filling to create the same look as the one with the lighter upholstery, where you can still see the shape of the frame, which is an essential part of the design. So as the one on the right in the pictures. These chairs by Niels Otto Møller are still in production but not in Rosewood anymore. So the rosewood-version is the most sought after because Brazilian Rosewood is a very much protected species nowadays. If you can prove that these chairs were made before a certain period, and in this case we can, then you export them with the correct forms...
