Yangon is the city with the highest density of colonial buildings in Southeast Asia. Known as Rangoon, it was the capital of Burma between 1824 and 1948 and one of the provinces of the British India Empire.
It experienced a rich architectural development during this period, following different styles: Art Deco, Edwardian, Victorian and British-Burmese. Architecture also greatly influenced the manufacture of furniture. Some of the finest Art Deco furniture was made in Rangoon during this period. An example is this amazing teak bench that would be a focal point for almost any interior.
