About the Item

The Perforano bench is the evolution of the Catalano, one of the few pieces of Spanish design that have never been bettered and which can be expected to remain commercially viable. DETAILS The fundamental change consists in replacing the ‘deployé’ with perforated sheet steel. “We thus lose elasticity and use more material, but the seat gains a less aggressive texture and is much more resistant to corrosion and vandalism”. On the basis of this change in the material, the structure and the length of the module have also been modified, giving rise to a new handling of the aesthetic. The secret of this bench lies in its well known virtues, its ergonomic shape, wisely adapted from the bench Antoni Gaudí designed for Güell Park. On the basis of the 123 cm module benches of any length can be assembled, single or back-to-back, using the type of leg desired. MATERIALS AND FINISHES Tubular steel seating in perforated sheets with a cataphoresis covering and painted in silver-coloured polyester resin. Optional armrests in painted steel. Steel tubular legs in two possible finishes: galvanized or galvanized and painted. Oscar Tusquets Oscar Tusquets describes himself as an architect by training, a designer by adaptation, a painter by vocation and a writer through the desire to make friends. Born in Barcelona in 1941, Oscar Tusquets graduated as an architect in 1965 from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura and was a member of Studi Per, together with Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet and Mireia Riera. Together they founded BD in 1972, when he set about designing furniture and other objects, recognised by the Spanish National Design Award. A number of his pieces appear in renowned museum collections such as the MoMA in New York and the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. He has also been honoured with the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes [Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts], the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres [Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters] and the Creu de Sant Jordi [Cross of Sant Jordi]. Since the 1990s he has published books on a wide range of design related topics.
