Bruno Ninaber Van Eyben 020 Chair Artifort 1977

About the Item

Exquisite piece of Dutch design, this model 020 chair designed by Bruno Ninaber van Eyben which was manufactured by Artifort, The Netherlands 1977. This ingenious design was based on connections, balance, and construction. It is one of the most technical designed chairs together with the Zig Zag chair by Gerrit Rietveld, if you ask me. This chair consists of only 3 parts of (ply)wood, puzzled together into a chair. The round stick in the middle does not only connect the seat part and the back part, but it also provides the strength to make it a sturdy usable chair. The first chairs made by Artifort were made in experimental colours, this silver one is one of the very first made and perhaps the only one. As we never saw a silver one before, this was however one of the first ones where they experimented on with paint. Only 150 of these chairs were made and I have the feeling this is the only silver one. The cool thing about this edition is that it appears to be made in aluminium because of the colour where in fact it was made of beech plywood. The chair is in very good fully original condition and is still straight where some of them bent over time. A very nice addition to ones collection of minimal design chairs.
