Colombo Sanguineti set of two ''Sei Stecche'' chairs, Chiavari, Italy, 1950s

About the Item

A rare set of ''Chiavarine'' chairs model Sei Stecche (six rods) presents itself as a remarkable testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of Colombo Sanguineti in Chiavari during the 1950s. These chairs, constructed with beech wood, exemplify a delicate balance between lightness and durability. The intricate hand-knotted seats, crafted from natural rope, pay homage to the cherished caning tradition of Chiavari, adding an elegant flair to the overall design. Weighing a mere 3.00kg each, these chairs offer exceptional portability, allowing for effortless relocation. Restored professionally, they possess both structural integrity and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The woven seats ensure a comfortable and visually delightful seating experience. Measuring 46cm in depth, 43cm in width, and 107cm in height, these chairs boast well-proportioned and ergonomic dimensions, making them a versatile addition to any space, be it a corner or a hallway. Furthermore, with a seat height of 46cm, they provide comfortable seating at standard dining tables. The influential design of the Chiavarine chairs has left an indelible mark on the world of design, inspiring luminaries like Gio Ponti, the renowned Italian architect and designer. Ponti's Leggera chair in the early 1950s and the Superleggera chair in 1958 both draw from the Chiavarine's hallmark attributes of robustness and lightweight construction.
