French Napoleon III Ebonized Children's Prie Dieu Pair w/ Needlepoint Upholstery
About the Item
This very rare pair of high Napoleon III prie dieu slipper chairs feature an ebonized mahogany structure, the original detailed needlepoint upholstery, turned stretchers and ten brass rosettes on each chair, as well as a brass banding around the upholstery.
It is super unusual to find a pair, let alone in such good condition. Very sturdy frames and still good color to the needlepoint.
"A Prie-dieu is a piece of furniture used for resting in a kneeling position." This pair would have been used in a family home with children.
