Signed with impressed manufacturer's mark to wing: [FXL Lalanne Artcurial]. François-Xavier Lalanne was a 20th century sculptor known for his surrealistic animal sculptures. Yves Saint-Laurent was among Lalanne’s many high-society patrons. William Grimes, writing for The New York Times, calls Lalanne’s oeuvre "endlessly inventive," as evinced by this charming chair in the shape of a bird.
