Pair of Iconic Glass House Stools, by Lina Bo Bardi, 1951, Midcentury Brazilian

About the Item

Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) designed this charming stool in the 1950s to compose the furniture pieces of the Glass House, the first built project by the architect Lina Bo Bardi and the residence of Lina and Pietro Maria Bardi for over 40 years. The Glass House has multiple blue details on the floor, columns, and furniture, contributing to an ethereal atmosphere that blends into the horizon. That's the case of this simple stool designed by Lina, which is sometimes used as a seat and sometimes as a side table. The piece comprises a three-foot structure in iron tubes and a wood top/seating with a black coating. Over the decades, the Glass House appeared in several critical architectural vehicles as an example of impeccable modern construction. The pieces are in its original condition. Restoration services by our Workshop are included as a courtesy. The deadline for carrying out the procedures varies according to each case.

  • Pair of Vintage Mocho Stools by Sergio Rodrigues, Brazilian Mid-Century, 1954
    By Sergio Rodrigues
    Located in New York, NY
The Mocho stool is one of the most iconic pieces designed by Sergio Rodrigues in 1954, before founding the Oca store. This pair is made of gorgeous solid Rosewood in very good vintage condition. As a free interpretation of a typical rural artifact, the cow-milking stool, the Mocho stool synthesizes both functions' simplicity: a piece that could be used as a seat and also support. The inspiration came from the circle, triangle, and trapezoid geometric forms and translated informality through its design resources. Mocho is a low piece on which the user has to crouch to sit, aided by a handle that allows it to be moved anywhere. Rodrigues sought a skilled lathe-operating carpenter and showed him the stool design. Right there, they produced the very first piece. It has been a success since then, arousing great interest from the public and other furniture manufacturers. In addition to being a mark in Sergio Rodrigues' history as a designer, the Mocho stool was the starting point of other furniture pieces, especially the Mole armchair and two other remarkable creations, the Arimello coffee table and the Cantù dining chair...
