Poul Henningsen, Pair of Foldable Theatre Chairs for the Betty Nansen Theatre, 1

About the Item

Rare pair of foldable theatre chairs designed by Poul Henningsen in 1957 for the renovation of the Betty Nansen Theatre (earlier The Young Theatre) in Copenhagen and made by Andreas Christensen. The chairs were featured in the renowned Danish design magazine Mobilia (no 322) in 1984. The last pictures are taken from that article. Base and frame made of black lacquered metal with brass stems at the back. Rubber cover sits over the tubular steel armrests. Blue fabric upholstery to the back and seat cushion. The chairs are in an untouched original condition with the original blue upholstery which is in decent shape. It has repairs and ware on top of both back cushion. The black painted frame has a bit of rust, scratches and missing paint but they both are in a very honest used condition. This model was only made for the theatre and has never been in serial production so they are a bit of Danish architectural history.

    Located in Uppsala, SE
Rare early 20th century dentist / medical chair made in white painted wood with dark green leather upholstered seat and neck rest. The neck rest is height adjustable so it would accommodate both adults and children when in use. The seat also has a very modernist pattern made with upholsterers decor nails similar to that of German/Swedish designer Otto Schulz and what he used on his cabinets. The high back style of chair is also very much associated with the grand father of Scottish design Charles Rennie...

  • Pair of Aesthetic Movement Small Folding Chairs E.W Godwin Manner
    Located in Norwich, GB
A pair of Aesthetic Movement small walnut low folding decorative chairs with cane seats, in the manner of E.W. Godwin. Circa 1870s. Free delivery to the UK via a selected parcel company. The walnut frames are in very good condition and have their original patina, showing some age with use, they have been lightly waxed. One of the chairs cane seats professionally re-caned, and it has been aged to resemble the other original cane seat. This same chair has had the under rail replaced in oak with two bolts, as shown in photograph number 12. This was done many years ago - I would say about 80 plus years, looking at the construction. Also added at a similar time under the seat, one small rail either side. The wooden dome...
