Desny Pair of Modernist Club Chairs

About the Item

French Modernist Art Deco pair of club chairs by Desny, circa 1930. Measures: 30” wide x 32” deep x 33” high. Unrestored in the photographs. Desny was active 1927-33 on avenue des Champs-Elysees in Paris. The principals of the firm were the designers Desny and Rene Mauny, and a financial backer named Tricot. Staff designer was Louis Poulain. The firm was known for its geometric forms and plain surfaces and was influenced by Cubism. It was well regarded also for its chrome-plated metal and innovative modern lighting; and also produced silverware and other accessories. The firms prestigious design commissions included the apartments of George-Henri Riviere and Pierre David-Weill, and Mlle. Thurnauer. When Desny died in 1933, the business closed.
