12 Antique English Hepplewhite Style Dining Chairs Supplied by Mario Buatta

About the Item

19th c. and later, England, an assembled set of dining chairs in the Hepplewhite style, (6) side chairs with pierced splat backs, and (6) side chairs of similar design, all of mahogany with pale green and cream linen upholstered drop in seats. While these chairs have certainly been well used they have a lot more life left in them. The sinuous shape of the carved splat backs and the lovely arched carved back rails are evidence of quality and craftsmanship in their construction. Dimensions: Larger: 38"h x 21"l x 17.5"w, 19"h (to seat) Smaller: 37.5"h x 18.25"w x 16"d, 18.5"h (to seat) Condition: Fair, some losses, repairs, wood cracks, areas of finish loss, particularly to legs, surface distress, discoloration, and staining to some of the linen chair seats. These chairs would benefit from some TLC but remain functional and decorative. They have acquired a lovely patina over the years and certainly show evidence of regular use. Provenance: Property from a Mario Buatta private commission Literature: This Mario Buatta commission was featured in House & Garden, March 1980.
