About the Item

A stunning and complete set of fourteen French 19th century Louis XVI st. giltwood dining chairs. This large set comprises of two armchairs and twelve side chairs. Each chair is raised by their original casters below finely carved circular tapered legs with a most elegant fluted and acanthus leaf design. Above each leg are most attractive block rosettes flanking the most decorative frieze with a central scrolled movement and beautiful foliate carvings in a satin and burnished finish. The upholstered back support displays impressive foliate carvings, block rosettes and a richly carved palmette flanked by scrolled movements. Each arm chair displays upholstered arm supports with block rosettes and fine finials. All original gilt throughout. Side chair: H: 42.25" L: 20.5" D: 18.75" Arm chair: H: 47.5" L: 26.25" D: 23".
