Rare Louis XVI Style French Gilt Wood Salon Suite, 1880
About the Item
A rare and impressive late 19th Century French carved giltwood Salon suite, comprising of a Sofa, fire screen, window seat and six arm chairs.
The show wood having wonderful scrolling, fluted and floral decoration, with shell like motifs to the tops and seat rails, raised on elegant scrolling cabriole legs.

There are four side chairs, two armchairs (fauteuils), and a canapé. All have square baluster legs and volute x-stretchers. All the wood has been richly sculpted and gilded, and motifs include scrolls, foliage, rinceaux, palmettes, beading, acanthus leaves and more.
