All rattan, bamboo and wicker furniture has been painstakingly refurbished to the highest standards with the best materials. All refinishing is done by rattan workers with over 20 years of experience in rattan refinishing. Every wrapping and joint has been inspected by “The Rattan Man” Harvey Schwartz to guarantee you the finest product available for years to come for your home or office. We get our handed down knowledge from Tropical Sun Rattan (TSR) which was started in 1934 in California.
This was made by Ritts co, Tropitan , Herb Sr. and Shirley Ritts. Shirley was an American interior designer, furniture designer, and Movie Art Director, their company helped to popularize rattan furniture in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Ritts was the mother of photographer and music video director, Herb Ritts Jr..Shirley Ritts was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 28, 1920
Herb Ritts Sr. also invented the "S springs" under the cushions in the early 50's
You see them on a lot of different rattan items in the 50's though the 70's
The Ritts's were a giant in the Rattan Industry as was Paul Laszlo, Paul Frankl and C.W. Fishbeck of Tropical Sun Rattan of Pasadena (started 1905)
