Pair of Lounge Chairs in Solid Brazilian Hardwood, Mid-Century Modern Design

About the Item

Meticulously crafted from solid Brazilian hardwood, these chairs exude an air of elegance and sophistication. Recently reupholstered in a stunning yellow fabric, they offer a vibrant pop of color that effortlessly revitalizes any interior. With their modern aesthetic and almost sculptural form, these lounge chairs serve as eye-catching focal points in any space. The sleek, organic legs add a touch of fluidity and grace, complementing the overall design. The tropical hardwood used in their construction enhances their durability and lends a sense of exotic charm. These chairs bear the mark of craftsmanship and heritage, with a connection to the renowned Liceu De Artes & Oficios. Established in 1873 by a group of elite coffee aristocrats, the institution initially aimed to train skilled labor for the potential industrialization of Brazil. However, within seven years, the institution transformed into a school of craftsmanship, focusing on design, casting, locksmithing, carpentry, and more. During its golden years, the Liceu de Artes e Oficios became a hub for young Brazilian designers, manufacturing and commercializing exquisite furniture pieces. The pair of lounge chairs embodies the spirit of this era, showcasing the ingenuity and creativity of the craftsmen associated with the institution. Not only do these chairs offer exceptional aesthetics, but they also prioritize comfort. Sink into their inviting seats and enjoy moments of relaxation and serenity. Their modern design seamlessly integrates with various interior styles, adding a touch of sophistication and personality to any setting.

  • Jorge Zalszupin's Presidential Lounge Chair, Brazilian Mid-Century Modern Design
    By Jorge Zalszupin
    Located in Sao Paulo, SP
The "Presidencial" lounge lounge armchair is a true icon of Brazilian modern design, created by the legendary Polish-Brazilian architect and designer Jorge Zalszupin in the 1960s. This rare and coveted piece showcases the fusion of two cultures, with its base made of tubular steel and black lacquered metal slats, topped with Brazilian Jacaranda Rosewood veneers in an unusual bentwood design. Zalszupin's innovative use of molded laminate wood allowed him to create the curves he desired, without the need for costly manual processes. This resulted in a beautifully unique armchair, part of a series composed of a sofa and armchair, that has become a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts of Brazilian modern design. The lounge armchair's backrest is composed of profiled hardwood veneer slats, giving the piece a light and organic structure that elegantly accommodates voluminous cushions. Its "U" form seat rests on chrome-plated steel legs with tubular feet, while the armchair's rosewood-reinforced slat back adds a touch of elegance and sophistication. The Presidencial lounge chair is in very good vintage condition and has received new upholsteries in suede. Its sleek and modern design makes it a perfect addition to any space, whether in a home or office setting. While the armchair can be displayed without its original cushions, it also comes with a custom cushion for added comfort and style. Overall, the Presidencial armchair...

Pair of scissor armchairs, Brazilian hardwood and fabric, Brazil, circa 1950 These exceptionally rare armchairs from Brazil embraces the quintessential Brazilian ethos of the 1950s. The design bears the beauty of Brazil's natural environment through its raw, constructive layout and the skillful use of a local, solid wooden material. The construction is marked by well-defined geometry, logical proportions, and visible constructivist elements. Characterized by simplicity, clarity and absence of ornamentation, this framework is exemplary of architectural minimalism. • Brazilian Modern Armchair Set in Hardwood & Beige Leather by Liceu de Artes 1960
By Liceu de Artes e Ofícios
    Located in New York, NY
Available today, this one-of-a-kind Mid-Century Modern armchair set in Hardwood & Beige Leather designed by Liceu de Artes e Oficios, in the sixties is nothing less than spectacular. The delicate armchairs are made in Brazilian Rosewood, known as Jacaranda, and re-upholstered in beige leather. The Canoa (canoe) model was inspired by the Brazilian canoes used in the Amazon. This can be seen in the armchair arms that resemble a canoe handle. The woodwork is spectacular and can be seen throughout the piece but mostly in the arms and legs. The old Jacaranda has colorful veins showcasing the age of the piece as well as levity in its design. The Italian leather is smooth, and the armchairs are not only beautiful but very comfortable. The wood was refinished and besides the marks of age (which are minimal) the set is in excellent condition. Sofa is available for sale also. The set is displayed in our showroom next to a green Sergio Rodrigues Sofa...
