About the Item

Magnificent and rare pair of Art Deco Modernist easy chairs. Design by Hendrik Wouda for H. Pander & Zonen Den Haag. Striking Dutch design from 1924. Solid oak frames with original black lacquered armrests. Re-upholstered with cotton fabric. Marked with original manufacturers metal tag and stamp. In very good original condition consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. The Modernist look of this wonderful pair of Art Deco easy chairs by Hendrik Wouda is also known in the Netherlands under the name Haagse School. The Haagse School was inspired by the designs of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The famous Dutch Art Magazine Wendingen published a series of articles on Frank Lloyd Wright in 1925. Well known Dutch architects of the Haagse School are Hendrik Wouda, Jan Wils, Frits Spanjaard, Cor Alons and Jan Brunott.
