Rare Pair of George Nakashima Conoid lounge chairs, 1983

About the Item

Rare pair of George Nakashima Conoid lounge chairs, 1983. American black walnut. Signed ‘George Nakashima’, Oct 1983. Introduced in 1961, the Conoid line was inspired by the curved vault and outward-facing, lyrical space of Nakashima’s Conoid Studio. These Conoid lounge chairs - which were first designed in 1976 for Japanese architect Yutaka Saito - are wider, lower and much more difficult to find than the more common Conoid dining chair or Conoid cushion chair. Made for Full Circle gallery. Measurements: 22” width, 24” depth, 33” height, 13.75” seat height Literature: Mira Nakashima, Nature, Form & Spirit: The Life and Legacy of George Nakashima, Abrams 2003, pp 172-175, 212
