Early "Metropolitan Chair", Ejner Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen for Fritz Hansen

About the Item

An iconic 'Metropolitan Chair' designed by Ejner Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen in 1950. Frame in solid beech with backrest and seat in teak plywood. The name of the chair comes from the exhibition “The Arts of Denmark” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in 1960. It has been recognized as an icon of Danish midcentury design ever since.

    Wear consistent with age and use. All original finish shows warm even wood color with handsome patina. A small edge veneer loss on reverse backrest was professionally repaired.
