These Mid-Century Modern, circa 1960-1970 chairs have been newly upholstered in a beautiful heavy white canvas. The x base is composed of a rectangular tubed chrome steel beautifully polished. They are absolutely stunning and although they are director’s chairs, they will definitely be the main act in any room you put them in! Perfect to use in a sitting room, in the kitchen at a fun little breakfast nook, at a card table or a coffee bar. They are modern style but could bring a little sass to a traditional setting as well. Come to think of it, you need these in your life no matter if your design style leans to Hollywood Regency, Campaign Style, Industrial, or Modern Country, they will be perfect! Robert Kjer Jakobsen was born in Portland, Oregon, on March 8, 1918. From 1949-1985, he was chief designer of the Los Angeles furniture company, Virtue Brothers; his designs of chrome were iconic and successful. Virtue Brothers of California was founded by two brothers Julian and Philip Virtue in August 1926. Julian and Philip began conducting experiments with chrome plating in the backyard of their family home in their spare time. Together they successfully chrome-plated furniture at first for friends and family and then for local businesses. Their business grew to be very successful. Yet suddenly, and without explanation, at the height of success, Julian Virtue left the firm. Some speculated that the brothers had fought, but neither Philip nor Julian ever mentioned such a disagreement. It was in 1950 that Julian would form his own company known as Virco Manufacturing Company. Virco currently has manufacturing facilities in two states, California and Arkansas. Whatever way you choose to use them; these chairs are sure to be a new favorite in your home.
