Pair of Mid-19th Century French Louis XVI Style Painted Opera Chairs Side Chairs
About the Item
This pair of mid-nineteenth century French Louis XVI style opera chairs features hand carved rosettes at the die joints and a central lyre with scrolling leaves in the seat back.. The seat back is further detailed with beading, and the flanking fluted columns are crowned with finials. The seats are caned and additionally detailed with a rais-de-coeur motif. The seat rests on tapered fluted legs in the front and gently curving legs at the back. Its worn original paint with hand painted gold accents creates a patina that only comes with age. An elegant pair, circa 1860.
