20th Century Alessandro Becchi Sofa Anfibio for Giovannetti Upholstered in Denim

About the Item

Alessandro Becchi was born in 1946. After his studies in Florence, he began his career as a designer. In 1972 he was invited to the exhibition "ltaly: the new domestic landscape" at MoMA in New York, presenting Anfibio. This date inaugurated a close collaboration with Giovannetti, for whom he designed a series of sofas with the function of a bed (Only You, Brando, Diletto and the famous series of armchairs Le Bugie). A designer of considerable ability, Becchi brought innovation, freshness and a love of design to the company, establishing, in addition to an excellent professional relationship with Benito Giovannetti, also and above all a deep emotional bond. It was probably this intense human relationship that gave "that something extra" to products of recognized success. The collaboration ended in 1987, with Becchi's death. The 'unchanged aesthetic content, which has made the Anfibio a cult object of its kind, is now joined by many technologically innovative aspects, making it an even more original and functional piece of furniture. Very good condition, presence of Producer tag as shown in photo. Dimensions when open as a bed: H 35 x L 180 x D 200 cm. Published in: G. Gramigna, "Repertorio del design italiano 1950-2000", p. 195, Allemandi, 2003.
