About the Item
By definition this variant of the 'Nuvola' armchair is a 3 seater sofa but it is so much more. Like the armchair it is a sculpture of iron, wood and a wide and soft padding that gives the name to this design piece. This sofa is a futuristic triple seat with a vintage flavor for a contemporary living room. The qualities of the shapes and materials are iconic and classic, 'zeitlos' as Kant defined them. The seats rotate around two axes so that this sofa with its infinite constellations can function in and with any architectural context. The iron frame has profiles with dimensions kept to a minimum, the feet are brass cylinders, signaling the touch on the ground with a noble material. The veneered plywood shell with a wide choice of veneers on both sides pays homage to the work of Sergio Rodrigues and Percival Lafer. The shell follows in its shape the underlying metal structure and is screwed to it in a traditional and visible way, another desired and coherent choice. The padding in leather or fabric is deliberately exaggerated and oversized and is superimposed on the body and tied to it by crossing it with leather laces, another very sensual detail that makes this piece of design unique and unmistakable. The 'Nuvola' sofa is constructed in such a way that the padding seems to float in the air, the underlying structures, iron structure and wooden shell remain hidden and covered entirely by the padding, the padding protrudes from all sides, as if it were an irrepressible voluptuous form ... a cloud.
