Empire Mahogany Wood and Veneer Sofa from the Late 19th Century

About the Item

Empire Mahogany wood and veneer sofa from the late 19th century We present you this antique Empire sofa circa 1860 of a beautiful form. It has richly decorated, massive armrests. What really draws attention are the carved headrest and upholstered walls supported on rounded columns. The upholstery is original, with a tear on the seat. It is, however, possible to replace it for an additional fee. Presented sofa is after preventive restoration, refreshed with French polish. There are visible traces of use. We offer chairs from the same set on a separate auction. You can find them under this link: KOMMG-207A.

In furnishing, the emphasis was placed on the structure of the furniture that had robust and geometrical forms, softened by curves. The simplicity of the materials, mainly light woods, was compensated by the variety and exuberance of the forms the backrests of the seats were carved in fan shape, the armrests of the sofas rolled...
