About the Item

This piece that we've named 'Edgar' is truly beautiful and you'd never know he's a sofa bed. Just look at the curves and the shine on his teak arms. And how beautifully that wood goes with the herringbone wool. It's so nice to have been able to work on a Classic British Midcentury frame, instead of our usual Scandinavian ones. Greaves & Thomas were a fine British manufacturer who, back in the day, were crafting stunning furniture pieces to rival the design quality and aesthetic of the Danes. And this sofa bed is one of the very best examples of their work. Elegant, refined but ultimately functional. The wood work has been cleaned and refinished, and other than a few very minor scuffs is in excellent, almost flawless, condition throughout. The sofa bed mechanism has been checked and is also in excellent working order, understanding that it is original and vintage. Depress the pedal at the back and lift the front of the sofa to flatten. We've used a soft, pure wool of greys, greens and oatmeals with an oversized herringbone motif running horizontally across the piece. These tones are a great partner for the rich teak - it's a very grown up piece. Sofa beds can sometimes be a little firm as they need to be for sleeping mode but Edgar is supremely comfortable. His generous seat depth as a sofa make him a lovely loungey couch. Dimensions: W: 203cm D: 81cm H: 75cm. Seat depth: 59cm, seat height: 42cm. Bed area: 113 x 184cm.
