Rare Fredrik Schriever-Abeln Sofa in Pine and Dark Green Bouclé, Sweden, 1960s

About the Item

This very rare sofa was designed by Fredrik Schriever-Abeln in the 1960s. This particular model named 'Condor' was produced in Sweden. Schriever Abeln's Condor range consisted of the iconic coffee table and a matching armchair and sofa. All pieces have the same, distinctive “X” shaped wooden sides. This sofa is very well constructed and offers great seating comfort. The sculptural side frames are in solid pine wood with an attractive wood grain. The armrests are completely upholstered for additional comfort. The contrast between the light wood and dark green fabric makes the design stand out even more. The sofa has been completely restored. The interior upholstery has been renewed and reconditioned, and the sofa has been reupholstered with a sumptuous, dark green bouclé fabric by de Le Cuona. This soft fabric is made from a robust mixture of twisted melange wool bouclé, tightly woven onto a linen base. The irregular, gnarled texture of the fabric mimics rugged terrain and the rich, earthy colours recall landscapes of the natural world.
