Transitisonal Painted Canape en Corbeille, c. 1760
About the Item
The frame with curvaceous form, featuring floral carving on the back & seat rails, along with moulded forms & scroll accents. The central design of Rose blossoms is repeated on both the apron & back rail, and complemented by carved florets throughout.
This piece bears a striking resemblance to a Canape by Jean-Baptiste Gourdin, sold in the Champalimaud Collection sale, Christie's, July 6-7, 2005, lot 41.
