About the Item

This carefully designed and handcrafted contemporary bar stool with a rattan weaved seat is an elegant and sophisticated stool for a kitchen or home bar, designed and made by Tomaz Viana. Its geometrical side view was designed as a playful visual effect distorting the horizontality of the wide and comfortable wicker seat supported by thin but strong legs. The whole piece is structured by a fine and intricate hidden system of joints and classical woodworking techniques were applied. Made from solid Iberian oak. Finished without sandpaper or modern technologies, instead, the surface is smoothed with a hand plane and other cutting blade tools, the original techniques used in the 18th century. This methods require years of expertise, knowledge of the material and handling of tools, from it, the surfaces acquire a special patina and since the whole piece of furniture is wood carved, the cut wooden fibres transmit to the sight and touch a sense of poetic and soft primitiveness.
