17th Century Antique French Oak Trunk from the Gothic Period
About the Item
A French 17th century large carved oak trunk. This trunk features a long rectangular shape body whereby the front panel has carved into it a Gothic style ornamentation in the form of a geometrical design. The top, sides and back have no carved decorations. The trunk interior offers a large open storage space which would have been used to store linen and blankets. The top is hinged from the inside with its original iron hinges. The coffer has a rich brown colour across its surface which has beautiful ageing throughout the wood.
The trunk is in an overall good condition, though there is damage to the back top area of the trunk, as shown in the photos caused by usage over time but also slight old wood worm damage. There are some minor structural damages to the trunk such as a crack at the back of the trunk and the corner but this is shown in the photos. If you want more photos of this just let us know. There are some scratches, blemishes and minor dents across the surface. The piece is antique and over 400 years old so it will have these kind of damages.
