Antique English 17th Century King Charles II Carved Oak Coffer Mule Chest 1680

About the Item

A wonderful Charles II carved oak coffer /mule chest, circa 1680. The chest of fabulous colour & good original condition, the chest having a hinged lid with the original iron 'snipe' hinges. The carved front decorated with original period carving and is a particularly fine example, featuring an arched arcaded frieze to the top, below are two carved panels with interlaced curled foliate. At each side is a vertical frieze of carved rosettes, the base is fitted with two drawers, with brass 'batwing' handles which are most likely period. The coffer is raised on stile feet, the rear has two chamfered panels, condition is very good, the coffer/chest is very robust and ready to grace your home.
