Antique Scandinavian Pine Baroque Folk Art Carved Dowry Chest Trunk Coffer 1780

About the Item

A very good antique Scandinavian carved Baroque Folk Art dowry chest, Circa 1780. The chest having a gently domed top with a hinged lid having the original 'snipe' hinges, the edge of the lid having carved gadrooning. To the front of the chest there are large and deeply carved geometric devices, to the center is a large hand cut steel lock and hasp. Both sides of the chest having hand-forged iron carrying handles within a deeply carved lozenge design and corresponding geometric floral devices. The interior of the chest is fitted with a candle till having a hinged lid decorated with inscised carving, the chest is raised on bracket feet carved with stylized leaves. The chest is in excellent condition and ready to grace youir home, it is made from heavy pine and is very robust, one could even use it as a bench seat, it would make excellent storage for bedding or?
