Large Antique 17th Century Hand Carved Oak Dutch Renaissance Chest

About the Item

A beautiful warm brown Renaissance chest or coffer that was made in 1669 in the Netherlands as it is dated of the front. The front has hand carved geometric ornaments and arched panels typical for the Renaissance style. The chest has its original forged lock, key, hinges, and handles. The interior features a small compartment on the left top side. This chest is a maid's chest and was given by the parents to their daughter when she went out to go and work for her first employer. In that matter, it resembles the nowadays suitcase. This chest is of high quality and it was commissioned by a prosperous family. The chest is in great authentic condition and that is remarkable given its age.
