Pair of 19th Century Japanese Meiji Period Dore Bronze Mounted Lacquered Chests

About the Item

A Fine Pair of 19th Century Japanese Meiji Period Dore Bronze Mounted Lacquered Chests/Trunks. Each chest is beautiful with a fine black lacquer which is heavily detailed and hand-painted with 24K gilt decoration of flowers and vines. Both chests are mounted with gilt bronze mounts which are highly detailed with hand-chased and hand-chiseled decorations of leaves and vines. Each chest is also fitted with gilt bronze handles which can be found at the front of the chest. The chests sit on two lacquered and hand-gilt bases which are also marvelous in quality and craftsmanship. The tops of each of the chest come off to be used to store various things.     Wear consistent with age and use. Due to their age, the lacquer in some areas has cracked slightly and there is wear to both chests. But overall, they are in great condition for their age and size.
