18th Century French Louis XV Carved Burl Walnut Clock Vaisselier from Lyon
About the Item
Hand carved in Southern France circa 1760, the large display cabinet decorated with floral and leaf motifs throughout, is built in two sections. The top part with volutes features a bonnet top over the clock casing with glass, a violin shape center door for the weights and pendulum, and four rows of shelving flanked with two side doors opening to inside shelving over two small drawers; both top corners are further embellished with open niches for additional display. The bottom section stands on scroll feet over a carved scalloped apron, and features three large doors with inside shelving over drawers across the front, all with forged iron handles, locks and keys. The clock movement with rooster brass face (a symbol of France), has been checked and cleaned, and is in wonderful working order keeping good time and chiming on the hour and half hour. The "Bressan Vaisselier Horloge" is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with wonderful carved motifs, abundance of storage, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Pendulum, two weights, winding key, and 2 keys included.
