French 19th Century Belle Époque Period Moucheté Mahogany Buffet
About the Item
A stunning French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period Moucheté Mahogany, ormolu and Vert Campan marble buffet attributed to Maison Krieger. The two door two drawer buffet is raised by elegant tapered topie shaped feet with fitted mottled ormolu sabots and charming foliate top caps. Impressive fluted columns lead up the cut corners at each side with fine richly chased fitted foliate ormolu chandelles and striking ionic capitals. The two doors at the center display a recessed panel showcasing the stunning Moucheté Mahogany grain framed in a mottled border and ormolu keyhole escutcheons with charming finely detailed tied ribbons. The doors open to reveal one adjustable shelf and the impressive original top to bottom lock. The two drawers above also display a recessed panel with elegant berried laurel pulls. Above is the original Vert Campan marble top with a fine mottled border.
Maison Krieger was founded by Antoine and Nicolas Krieger in Paris in 1826. Producing and taking part in major exhibitions of the 19th century, including the Exposition Universelle and the 1849 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie in Paris. Receiving a medal for their exhibition at the Universal Exhibitions of 1851 in London, and again in 1855, Paris. Maison Krieger created many pieces in Louis XV & Louis XVI styles, 18th century, and Empire designs. Maison Krieger is recorded to have been an active client of François Linke.
