19th Century Florentine Pietra Dura Cabinet
About the Item
Pietra Dura Florentine Cabinet
ebonised wood and gilt wood base
H 62 in. (157.5cm); W 31 in. (78.7cm); D 14 in. (35.6cm)
Cabinet made of softwood with ebony veneer and rippled moulding. The door in the center of the facade is decorated with pietre dure panel depicting neoclassical vase with springs of flowers. This door gives access to an interior section with additional pietra dure panels drawers that pull open. The edges and corners of the pietre dure panels and the top finials have gilt bronze mount.
The pietre dure plaques contain various types of breccia and colored marbles with an inlay of lapis lazuli and jasper. The cabinet is set on a carved giltwood stand.
