20th Century Willy Rizzo Black Bar Cabinet with Ottomans for Sabot, 70s

About the Item

Willy Rizzo, most famous for his photographer career, designed some furniture items from 1966 to 1978. Imagination and necessity also allowed Willy Rizzo to try his hand at furniture design. This activity began in Rome, while he was working for a hairdresser. In a short time, he obtained many requests. He later worked for Rodolfo Parisi, Gigi Rizzi, Franco Rapetti, Salvador Dalí and Brigitte Bardot. In 1968 he completed the creation of his own studio and factory in Tivoli, which employed more than 150 people. Over the next ten years, Rizzo designed and manufactured more than thirty pieces of furniture, opening boutiques throughout France, Europe and the United States. However, in 1978 Rizzo left the business to return to photography, his first love. Most of Rizzo's furniture is exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. He returned to furniture design for a period in the 1980s and then again in the mid-2000s, in collaboration with Paul Smith and Mallett Antiques. Here we have a very peculiar bar cabinet designed by Willy Rizzo for Sabot in 70s. It has lacquered laminated wooden structure, brushed steel and poufs with faux leather upholstery, plus slide top and bottle storage compartment. Good condition, fully original.

  • 20th Century Man Ray Mirror "Les grands transparents" for Gavina, '70s
By Man Ray, Simon Gavina Editions
    Located in Turin, Turin
Among the most versatile and creative artists of the twentieth century, Man Ray (1890 - 1976) - was one of the most radical and multifaceted representatives of Dadaism and Surrealism. Born in Philadelphia in 1890, he frequented Greenwich Village at the time of the avant-garde, following the 1913 New York Armory Show; Paris in the 1920s and 1930s, where he played a key role in the Dada and Surrealist Movements; the Hollywood of the 1940s, where he joined other European war refugees; and finally Paris again until his death in 1976. Man Ray met Dino Gavina in Paris. At first the meeting was tense because Man Ray thought he was facing a journalist or a critic. Then his aggressiveness turned to politeness as soon as he realized that he was asking for nothing more than to meet him. From the hallway they moved on to the studio, and they spent hours together. At that very moment an extraordinary friendship was born and an association that united them for life. Here the mirror "Les grands transparents...
