Andre Sornay Room Divider Cabinet, France, 1955

About the Item

Stunning minimalistic room divider wardrobe designed by cabinet maker Andre Sornay, France 1955. This rare room divider cabinet was designed with his 'tigette system' which was basically a modular formula which he used to make many furniture in these series, from sideboards to desks, from wardrobes to tables. This rare cabinet has a geometric design with solid teak wooden structure, and white painted board panels supported by hard wooden shelves.  It has for sure a Japanese feel and influence in this design. The inside has plenty of storage options and since the piece is finished all around it can easily stand in the middle of a room to divide it. This one is with white panels which is a typical colour for his furniture and it works perfectlty with the wooden details. This rare cabinet was only made in very small numbers for a school project in France and is proportion wise one of the nicest examples I saw. It is in very good original condition with normal wear to the white paint, some loss where the doors slide.
