Cabinet from 1950 Reminds Works of Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, Le Corbusier

About the Item

Built between 1945s-1950s, this unique rectangular "cabinet" with an oak structure and oak veneer, resting on a black wooden base and with three aluminum covered sliding doors with fin-shaped wooden handles, discovering several shelves inside and different storage spaces inside. . Origin France. . There was no validation or attribution, which explains its "low" price, but this work is reminiscent of the works of Jean Prouvé model AG 11, Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier. . Measures: Height : 165 cm Length : 150 cm Depth 60 cm . Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) is one of the pioneers of the innovative production of 20th century furniture and architecture. Anxious to fit in with his time, he explored all the technical resources of metal and quickly moved from wrought iron work to constructive applications of folded sheet metal. . Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) is considered one of the most important female designers of the 1950s. Having collaborated for a long time with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, she produced several pieces of metal furniture in 1927 - including the famous chaise longue with variable position that Thonet will publish two years later. . Le Corbusier is a well-known architect, born in 1887 in Haut-Jura (Switzerland) and died in 1965 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (France). His real name is Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris. He choose Le Corbusier as his pseudonym. He was also an urban planner, decorator, painter and man of letters.

This office by Robert Charroy bears the marks of its use, and for good reason, it has equipped the Jean Zay university residence, for which it was designed. The patina of time therefore takes on all its charm, with a touch of nostalgia for some. This piece of furniture tells the story of an exceptional context, that of the student housing project launched in the emergency of post-war reconstruction, in 1948, and which has evolved to become the most ambitious university pilot program in Europe. In 1954, he offered to accommodate 3,000 students in functionally furnished accommodation and common areas, thanks to two competitions organized in 1955 and 1956.
