Exceptional Pair of Rare 19th Century Pier Cabinets or Bookcases

About the Item

An exceptional pair of rare 19th century richly patinated walnut and tulipwood pier cabinets or bookcases, finely hand carved, cross banded, ormolu mounted and marquetry inlaid throughout. The well figured moulded top of rectangular form above intricate marquetry inlaid, shaped frieze with a centred arrangement of scrolling foliate flanked with flowerheads. Raised over single panelled glazed door with ormolu escutcheon opening to a lined shelved interior, flanked with finely cast ormolu foliate mounts and a further arrangement of marquetry motifs depicting trailing foliate and leaf detail, supported on plinth base with shaped apron, terminating on shaped bracket foot.
