Italian 17th Century Baroque Period Walnut and Iron Specimen Cabinet
About the Item
A handsome Italian 17th century Baroque period Walnut and iron specimen cabinet. The three door eleven drawer cabinet is raised by impressive paw feet below a mottled border with a striking reeded gadroon like design. At the center are two doors decorated with arch shaped recessed panels with fine foliate carvings and iron lion head pulls flanked by remarkable columns with large acanthus leaves and richly carved personages. The two drawers also display handsome lion head iron pulls flanked by superb carved lion heads while the sides of the cabinet are decorated with recessed panels. The drawers and the small door above each display handsome satyr like iron pulls set on a recessed background with a fine mottled border and flanked by similar columns with acanthus leaves and richly carved personages amidst foliate designs. Above a mottled band are impressive richly carved scrolled Rinceau shaped foliate designs, a superb lion head at the center, and masks at each corner all below an elegant dentil band. All original iron hardware and patina throughout.
