Large 19th Century Flemish Carved Oak Cabinet
About the Item
Sh carved oak cabinet circa 1870.
Profusely carved cupboard of grand proportions in the Baroque Revival taste. Comprising of 2 sections.
Understated cornice decorated with egg and dart carving with further carved panels below. Small double door cupboard containing a single shelf. Carvings on these doors appear to show dogs apprehending people. Doors flanked either side by carved cherubs and shells. Open storage aperture supported by 3 carved supports.
Bottom section with brushing slide and 2 drawers below. Large double door cupboard containing a further shelf. Door fronts decorated by carved scenes of folklore stories. Flanked either side by columns and standing on a shaped plinth base.
Transport labels from Germany and Sweden on the reverse. Deep dark colour with flashes of the natural oak coming through.
Expected minor surface marks with age.
