Large Belgian Oak Régence Style Cabinet from Around 1800

About the Item

Cabinet in the Régence style from the late 18th or early 19th century. Presumably from the Belgian-French border region of Mons. Made of solid oak and finely carved. High, laterally coffered two-door body with bevelled corners and a curved, profiled, cranked pediment with a large artesanal carved central cartouche. Doors in frame construction, each with 2 cut-out and florally carved panels, hanging on external brass fittings. Later mounted brass key plates. Inside, the cabinet is fitted with 2 plinth drawers and 3 shelves. Changes to the interior fittings can be made by arrangement (e.g. installation of a clothes rail). Dimensions: 260 cm high / 102.4 inch high, 160 cm (body) or 170 cm (base) or 195 cm (head rail) wide / 63 inch (body) or 67 inch (base) or 77 inch (head rail) wide, 56 cm (body) / 62 cm (base) / 71 cm (head rail) deep / 22 inch (body) or 24 inch (base) or 28 inch (head rail) deep. Authentic condition with signs of use due to age, as well as minor damage to the headboard and plinth (see pictures). The doors and drawers open and close smoothly. The cabinet is made using the so-called "Stollen" construction method and can therefore be dismantled into several individual parts for transport (headboard, side panels, plinth, doors, shelves and several parts of the back panel). The cabinet is assembled by simply plugging together the wooden joints and fastening with wooden dowels.
