Late 18th Century Demilune Satinwood Commode, circa 1780

About the Item

18th century demilune satinwood commode of small proportions, in the manner of Mayhew & Ince A superb Sheraton period late 18th century semi-ovoid satinwood commode of small proportions, in the manner of Mayhew & Ince, circa 1780-1790. The top consists of a satinwood veneer in six sections with kingwood edging and a boxwood demilune-stringing pattern. The commode has a double cupboard door veneered in satinwood with Kingwood banding and double Boxwood stringing with an ovoid shape to both side panels and front doors. A small central drawer with original lock and two handles (possibly replaced, but in keeping with the piece.) The four tapering legs are Satinwood with Boxwood stringing ending in spade feet. This piece is in the typical style of the designers Mayhew & Ince who produced many commodes of a similar shape and style, using similar inlaid designs in the late 18th century. They produced furniture for the great houses of the period from 1750-1800. This piece is in very good condition with a wonderful warm patina.
